They should just kill all the bears, because, you know, if one is capable of it, they all are.

*please note dripping sarcasm*

The whole incident was just weird. There have been other bear sightings locally. Small ones mostly that seem confused. Why are those hairless things screaming? Why won't they give me that nice smelling stuff on the fire?

Now, I'm as fond of my lunch as the next guy, but I promise you that if a bear tries to take it, hey I hope he enjoys it, cause I'm not going to argue with him about it.

No one talks about it much now, but in the 70's they had major problems with bears in the west because tourists fed the cute little ones. Darling photos of Uncle Tim holding an oreo over a sweetly begging small bear. Little Dorothy reaching a cupcake out the window of the family station wagon. Only problem was, those cute little guys didn't stay that way long. They got big. A big bear will say to himself, to hell with begging, I'll damn well just take it. Of course, people break easily so sometimes teenage bear and papa bear got a few fingers or hey a head with the cupcake.

After several bears had been blessed by the addition of a little human DNA into their digestive systems the park service, unhappily, killed a few and relocated many of the pushy black bears. Children everywhere were educated about not feeding or interacting with wildlife. Now 30 years later the lessons seem to have worn off.

My heart breaks for the child that was killed, her family, and the bears. In the 70's we were not so politically correct that we were aftaid to tell people what to do about the problem. I have not heard any news advice about preventing the problem by not feeding the beasts. (leaving garbage where they can get to it or actually feeding them) I think we are so afraid of being accused of "blaming the victim" that we just keep our mouths shut.

Problem is, half the victims in these stories are the bears. We don't seem to care much about them anymore.

Do these people not know that bears are carnivores? Sheesh!

I'm rooting for the bears here. They shouldn't have to pay for the stupidity of humans. Enough's enough.
